Only a little is called for in this meal, quick to make and inexpensive too.

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1⁄4 cup vegetable oil

Combine water, sugar and yeast in a bowl and let stand for 10 minutes or until dissolved and creamy.
Beat in the flour, oil and salt and knead until the dough loses its stickiness.

Turn dough out onto a floured surface and form into a ball. And from that ball, cut into 6 pieces. Form each piece into a small round ball. Gently pat dough with your fingers, forming a flat, round bread.

In a medium-high heat pan. Lay pita bread and cook until bread begins to puff up and bottom has brown spots/blisters. Flip, cook for a couple of minutes, and flip back onto original side to cook for about 30 seconds.

Pita bread will be filled with hot air and begin to puff up. Stack cooked breads aside; and when cool enough to handle, cut in half and open the pocket inside for stuffing.

Fill with stuffing of your choice.
